Hey folks,

My pc has been behaving oddly the last two days and its making me worried.  Yesterday it had changed its time display back 3 hours (should have read 20:00 and it read 17:00) then today it started in bios talking about the case being open and the time read 12:45 when it should have read 17:45, so I changed it in bios.  There was nothing resting on my keyboard btw.  Now my Belkin wireless thingy stopped working and I had to take it out of the holder and plug it direct into a socket.  I guess I am worried that I have a virus or something that got past my firewall and wasn't picked up by AVG.

Anyone have any advice or come across something like this previously?

Sax.

If your BIOS clock is slipping and BIOS is losing settings, this could indicate your motherboard's battery is going flat. They usually last the lifespan of a computer though (never had to replace one) but this could be the cause. If you do decide to replace the battery then you might lose all your BIOS settings, so note them down. If you pop the old battery and get the new one in very quick this might not happen.

BIOS viruses are very rare these days, most viruses want to use your PC as a zombie so they won't try and disable it. If you're worried, you could do a BIOS update.

This wouldn't explain the wireless router problems, though a friend of mine has a Belkin and he regularly has problems with it cutting out randomly. So perhaps the two problems are unrelated.

What cern said, battery imo

Dunno about the belkin, i dont have a wireless router. As Cern said doubt its a virus or anything.

Interesting, ok, well I am planning on a pc upgrade in the next 3 months so I'll try and rough it out as a new mobo is gonna be part of the upgrade.  This is the first trouble I ahve had with the Belkin but will keep an eye on things.

Cheers,

Sax.
