Hello

Just a query - in todays patch we get our talents reset but will the talents be the same as what they were or will we be able to pick new talents that we have not had access to before?

Hope that makes sense!

I think new talents else it would not be worth reseting.

Sax.

edit - I have just looked at the new Warlock Talents, I think I'll just lvl my warrior up to 70th lvl from scratch cos I will suffer brain trauma trying to decide between demonology and destruction !!!

I'm in the same boat - tempted to max out in protection to help leveling while in groups but this would seriously gimp me during pvp.

Heard some rumours that the patching isn't going that well anyway so maybe in for some extended downtime.

Patching is done and servers are up, but looks like there's a big load on them though (BG's just crashed on TH and server is being reset).

As for talents you get the 'new' talent trees (seems it's an old build as far as talents are concerned, though mainly affects paladins, rogues & druids afaik) with the 41-point talents in them which you can spec, but you keep having only 51 points to spend, 10 more come in tBC with each level.

I wouldn't spec protection for 5/10-man instances though and neither is it necessary for ZG tanking tbh, just get some tanking gear, so your def is around 350 and you can tank ZG bosses just fine as either arms or fury. Actually the guy who mostly mt's for our alliance on TH is arms spec and he tanks ZG/AQ20 & MC without probs (might have some points in prot for defiance though).

Collect some tanking gear from the 5/10 man instances (naglering & force of will from BRD, the shield from Drakki in UBRS, cloak of warding (tailor-made) or redoubt cloak (DM tribute), ornate adamantium breastplate from EPL quest chain, deathbone set pieces from Scholomance, etc and you'll be fine to tank while also still being able to dps.

I retract my statement, almost all servers down now :p. Think it's the BG servers which crashed actually as was stuck on loading screen before they restarted the server, but server not been up yet.

Managed to log on a bit and play my OP shaman :)

Not looked at my warrior yet as I may change my talents slightly.

I do have some + defense gear but only about +35ish. I'm not that particularly fond of being a MT in a large raid, more happy in a small 5 man group :)

I agree with eko, dont think it matters too much brigh, from a healers point of view in a 5 man whilst a prot warrior is extra nice, the main thing is that the group actually co-ordinates. Which is why PUGS are always worse, frankly if the warrior gets out a shield in a PUG then I'm happy (you'd be surprised...)

When we leveled up our group consisted of 2xshadowpriests, a tanking warlock, a rogue and a shaman (who was the MT). Yes, shaman MT :-) A crazy group by most peoples standards these days

Whilst we certainly had challenges with a shaman MT (mostly in areas where platform game style skills were required !) i still think we were prolly far better than most PUGS.

Spec what you'll enjoy, if you fancy trying prot then go for it, but do it for yourself and realise you'll prolly gimp your solo exp'ing ability as well as world pvp/BGs

Yeah I wouldn't go for prot for the points Las made, especially with TBC coming up, and if your saying you don't wanna tank for raids it really is not worth it.  A good grp with a healer who is on the ball a warrior with shield is enuf.

Besides if your in a grp with me, I'll be doing most of the tanking  :D

Sax.

edit :- Our grp might have had challenges when it came to massive number of mobs attacking at the same time (jungle instance, Maruadon?), or 4 elites at once, but when it came to Undead or anything that could be Mind Controlled we did tend to mop up  :)

Pfft, orcs aren't designed for jumping ... mind the gap

I'd strongly advise against going heavily into Protection unless you want to be MT for 20-man raids (and even then full Protection is not essential). If you aren't really wanting to be MT for a large raid (and I don't blame you, not my cuppa either) then Prot would be a dead end spec, especially if want to do any PvP at all.

Arms/Fury is fine for 5-10 man raids. If you have the epic shield from AV plus some decent +defence gear (+50 is ideal but +35 isn't too shabby) you can tank pretty much anything like Scholo, Strat, UBRS, ZG without any trouble at all.

Thanks for the advice

I'm going to put a little in protection but not much - I have never respecced so when I'm lvl70 I can respec again and go more for DPS.

I think simple things like Anticipation (20+ in defense) and toughness (10% armour increase over 7000 armour with shield so an extra 700 armour is nice) would help a lot when I'm called on for tanking.

31/10/10 is pretty similar to the spec I had on my warrior (was 31/5/15) and is a nice balance of Arms stuff for PvP and solo grinding, with the basic essentials for tanking - anticipation and toughness. I also had Improved Bloodrage and Defiance, neither of which are essential for tanking (Unbridled Wrath will generate plenty of extra rage). Only thing I might consider spec'ing extra into prot for is Tactical Mastery, which I notice they moved from the Arms tree. It is very useful for keeping some basic rage when stance hopping. So you could swap 5/5 Unbridled Wrath for 2/2 Improved Bloodrage and 3/3 Tactical Mastery.
