Hey Folks,
I know most of you use Vista but was wondering if XP Service Pack 3 is worth dling as my lady has my old pc and it has been released on the updates. The thing that spooks me is its recommending I back up my system which seems unusual, I don't wanna dl it and find it breaks the pc as I won't be here long enought o easily fix it if it did. Just wanted some advice on the best course of action, usually I'd want to dl this sort of thing.

Service packs always say you should back up yer stuff in case it breaks it, and i have been in the situation before where things didn't work after installing a service pack. However, most of the time it goes without a hitch. Depends how much of value is on her pc really, i'd recommend backing it up anyway if there's stuff that she wouldn't want to disappear :) (you don't need expensive backup software though, i think windows XP has a built in backup tool doesn't it ? Vista certainly does). But yes, Service Packs are kinda necessary for all the security fixes and stuff that come with them.

Pfff, any more shameless post farming and the database might have a little 'accident' ;)
As for service packs, it's rare they go wrong. Given they usually fix security holes etc, its wise to always install them.

I agree, reset the post count (I'm too far behind :P).
Every Service Pack indeed tells you to back up your system, guess it's so they won't get sued if/when it breaks things :). Doesn't it make a restore point itself anyway? Just go ahead and install it, then afterwards check windows update again and install any critical updates.

All went smoothly, I also increased the disc space available for roll back save points on both drives, so all good :)
