I was wondering if any of you actually got very far into this game, depsite the fact I liked it, and had fun I never really got to grips with it for some reason. Wondered what the rest of you thought and did, I think I made it to about lvl 14 or 15 only and did a few quests and some bits and bobs ...

Initially I liked the game a lot, but I also got about level 16 on just the one character before giving up. A few reasons:
1) Level scaling. Because the mobs scale with you, it almost seemed a disadvantage to level because certain stuff (particularly the story thread quests) became almost impossibly hard (perhaps they fixed this in a more recent patch).
2) Graphical issues. My system is of reasonable spec but just couldn't cope with even moderate settings.
3) Where are the other players? being too used to MMORPGs these days, the game world felt empty without other players around.

Can only echo Cerns comments really. I also found it because a bit samey - i always came across those dark portal type things in the wilderness and my first thought was 'oh no, not another one' :)
I also think i suffer in games with a real open environment. It may sound silly but I like a storyline with alternate choices/endings (not linear though), rather than something so open as I kind of feel a bit goal-less. I know there was the central story, but i did not really find that so engaging and like cern i ended up finding it too hard.
Another point i'd add is i did not get to grips with the entire character class system etc.
Slightly off topic, I persisted over Christmas with NWN2 and actually found despite the annoying camera and mind boggling bad AI (at times) the story was actually pretty good. By the time i completed the campaign i was actually pretty bored, but it kept me going for a while - mostly because after playing DDO last year I'm much more familiar with the d&d ruleset now i guess.

Bah you should all play Planetside - apart from WoW its my fav mmorpg
I think I like it so much because its completely different to WoW so it feels like you get a complete break from one and another - if I play to many games with similar ideas - e.g. questing, levelling by killing mobs I just grow bored.
Planetside FTW !!
Brigh :P

You should ahve tried Savage Brigh, if PS appeals to you then that might do also. Its old now and I doubt if anyone still plays, but Savage 2 is out this year (theoretically), and am hoping it'll be great. I have a feeling it'll be dumbed down for the masses though as many thought the first one to hard :/

I liked PS a lot, but it was yet another subscription to maintain (when I played PS I had two DAOC accounts open).
I'm guessing that if I only had the original PS game there's now several expansions that would need buying? (not that I'm considering it really, just curious)
-
they did one expansion (paid) and another free to re-boost the game (introducing mechs etc)
Essentially now it's so old and not really being updated, i think sony have a dev team of 2 ppl on it and only the hardcore maintain subs. Sorry brigh ;) It is indeed an awesome game but we needed PS2 now.
Battlefield 2142 pretty much outclasses it in every way these days, plus it's free to play.

Aye only one expansion to buy and that is it - still get a lot of people logging on but in the evenings you mainly just fight on one island so you spend less time waiting for action.
Brigh :D

Hehe, no, one game sub is enough for me these days. If they released Planetside 2 I might take a look though but Warhammer is the one I'm most anticipating.
