Looks good, though could be very very poor as well :)

Yeah, on initial look, it definitely seems interesting. I'm all for games which try to do things differently, and the skill advancement and combat systems are certainly different.
But yeah. There's always the danger it could be a bit poop ;)
-
Some more info, this time on aggro management and PvE combat I guess.

Again, sounds very different. I like the varying attitudes of factions idea, but not sure if the combat doesn't sound rather artificial, with NPCs picking out and sparring with one party member.
Only the implementation will tell, of course. I was supposed to be on the beta by now, but they've put it all back, ahh well at least they're not blindly rushing it out the door.
-
You doing a review on it D?
-
No, a preview, but when it comes out I'll probably do the review as well.
-
pfft, linguistic technicalities
-
have a look here (http://mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/setView/features/gameID/207/loadFeature/0/TheChroniclesofSpellbornFeatures.html) also - mmorpg.com, scroll down to the dev journals. Some stuff on the different kinds of archtypes and classes that makes an interesting read.
Seems to have DAOC style bodyguard tanks, and stealth sure sounds different to most games. Would be kinda fun pretending you're a mob then jumping out at people ;) Though as with all these things depends how it's implemented.
By the way, vanguard also coming soon and seems to promise a great deal from the blurb as well. Also Conan does look kinda fun in a gruesome way :)

Hanging around behind a tree for several hours before jumping out and being immediately trampled by 15 players ..... sounds like a job for Sax. But he'd probably bump into the tree and knock himself out at the players feet :D
-
I'd ave em no matter the odds!!!
Theres always a chance :D

I am starting a rumour that CoSB beta (open, last stage closed?) starts on Nov 1st, there is some kinda give away draw competition on mmorpg.com that states you'll get beta entry for 1st of Nov. Obviously I have entered, but the main gist of this msg is to let you know a rough time scale for release ... my money is on Friday Nov 17th.

Ahh, didn't know that. I was thinking late November, just hope they aren't having to rush it too much, as they might be under pressure to get it out before Xmas.

Spellborn to be released in Q1 2007!
TUESDAY, 24TH OF OCTOBER 2006 :: POSTED BY FREEZE :: 34 COMMENTS
In last month's Producer's Update we already hinted at a new release schedule for The Chronicles of Spellborn. Today the European publishers Frogster Interactive and Mindscape have announced that the game will be released in Q1 2007, with an Open Beta scheduled for early Q1 2007. We decided to not push the game out before the holiday season, but instead take the extra time to polish the game to ensure that we deliver on all the content and the features that were promised.
As usual, we welcome you to comment in the forum thread linked below.
**from the official site....
Can't say I'm surprised really, so we won't be playing that anytime soon.
When's Vanguard supposed to be out? And dare we try that? ;) I was scared off it earlier this year when I heard all the stuff about it going back to EQ hardcore roots, but apparently it isn't like that....
-
Refreshing to see a games company not rush a title out to milk the holiday market. Seems a good sign.
-
Yep, that's true enough.
Been playing Gothic 3 this week and even with the release patch, it's buggy and suffers from some pretty bad frame rate judder... the graphics aren't as good as Oblivion either, which ran fine on my machine on medium details.
The thing about Gothic was they put the release date back for that, too, in order to "perfect" it... (more like in order to make sure it was at least semi-playable ;) )
-
Damn and I thought we'd put the band back together b4 xmas!!

well there's always NWN2....
Good thing if a game takes more time in general really, so not fussed if they are trying to get things right.
-
I think it also says something about thier funding ...
I am sure we can get something sorted for NWN2 to tide us over, though I am excited about Mark of Chaos and might try the new Total War game :)
Sax.
-
Yeah, think you may be right, Sax, on the funding score, it's not a big dev team is it?
Never played Total War series, but I may break that habit with Med 2 :)
-
I'd have thought delaying would mean they r not having any money problems which is a good thing, as for Total War, Rome was brilliant the perfect mix of turn based and RTS. Though the RTS can be paused and its all alot more relaistic with formations and what not, defo worth ago, a Total no brainer!!
Sax :)
-
bleh@RTS :)
Total war could be fun ye, but the last one i found the AI pretty crap, hope theyve improved it. Only way to get a game against something that thinks was to go multiplayer (but then you get totally destroyed by people that play it 24/7 :))
I see savage 2 is also going to be download only (i.e. not in the shops) to keep the price down. Interesting idea, just dont think it will get much publicity like the first one.
-
Prolly not but as long as that doesn't affect the game play I don't care either way, if like the first one the players make the patches then it'll all be good. I am more worried that they have hit some kinda major problem thats stopped them in thier tracks and they'll release it and it'll just be found lacking ...
Time will tell.
